Minecraft server.properties Generator

Change the settings below and the finished server.properties updates as you type. Every setting NodeMesh's own Config tab offers for Java Edition is here, with the same defaults and limits. Nothing is saved and you do not need an account.

General

The network port the server listens on for incoming player connections. min 1024 · max 65535 · default 25565

The maximum number of players allowed online at the same time. min 1 · max 200 · default 20

The message shown beneath the server name in the multiplayer server list.

Sets the world difficulty, controlling mob damage, hunger, and hostile threat level (peaceful, easy, normal, or hard).

The default game mode new players start in (survival, creative, adventure, or spectator).

The folder name of the world the server loads, creating a new world if it does not exist.

When enabled, forces players back to the default game mode each time they join the server.

Kicks players after this many minutes of inactivity, with 0 disabling the timeout entirely. min 0 · max 525600 · default 0

When enabled, the server does not include the list of online players in its status response.

Pauses the server tick after this many seconds with no players online to save resources. min 0 · max 86400 · default 60

World

The seed used to generate the world terrain, left blank for a random seed.

The world generation type, such as normal, flat, large biomes, or amplified terrain.

Toggles generation of structures such as villages, strongholds, and temples in newly generated chunks.

The radius in blocks around spawn that non-operator players cannot build in or modify. min 0 · max 50 · default 16

The maximum radius in blocks from the center that the world border allows the world to grow. min 1 · max 29999984 · default 29999984

Gameplay

Permits flight from client mods or elytra in survival without kicking players for flying.

Locks the difficulty to hard and bans players from the server permanently when they die.

Network

Verifies connecting players against Mojang/Microsoft authentication servers, blocking cracked and unauthorised accounts.

Enables the remote console (RCON) so admin commands can be sent over TCP from external tools.

Sets the radius of chunks (in chunks) the server sends to each player for rendering the world. min 3 · max 32 · default 10

Sets the radius of chunks (in chunks) around players where game logic such as mobs and redstone is actively ticked. min 3 · max 32 · default 10

Restricts the server so only players on the whitelist may join. Minecraft 26.3 and newer turn it on by default, older versions leave it off. Until the server has written a value, the game's own default applies.

Kicks any currently online players who are not on the whitelist when the whitelist is reloaded.

Sets the password required to authenticate RCON remote console connections.

Performance

Maximum milliseconds a single server tick may take before the watchdog assumes a crash and shuts the server down; set to -1 to disable. min -1 · max 120000 · default 60000

Minimum packet size in bytes before network packets are compressed; -1 disables compression and 0 compresses everything. min -1 · max 1024 · default 256

Controls how close entities must be before the server sends them to a player, as a percentage of the default range. min 10 · max 1000 · default 100

Writes chunk data to disk synchronously, preventing data loss or corruption after a crash at the cost of performance.

Uses optimised native packet send/receive (Linux epoll) when available for better network performance.

Caps how many consecutive block neighbour updates may be chained before the rest are skipped, limiting redstone lag. min -1 · max 100000000 · default 1000000

Exposes server tick timing metrics over JMX for external monitoring tools.

Permissions

Sets the permission level (1 to 4) granted to operators, controlling which commands they may run. min 1 · max 4 · default 4

Sets the permission level (1 to 4) that datapack functions and command blocks run commands at. min 1 · max 4 · default 2

Sends the output of commands run from the server console to online operators.

Sends the output of commands run via RCON to online operators.

Requires players to have a signed Mojang security profile so chat messages are cryptographically signed; unsigned clients are rejected.

Resource Pack

URL of a server resource pack that clients are prompted to download and apply when joining.

SHA-1 hash of the resource pack used to verify its integrity and cache it on clients.

Custom message shown to players in the prompt asking them to accept the server resource pack.

Forces players to accept the server resource pack or be disconnected from the server.

Query & Status

Allows the server to respond to status pings shown in the multiplayer server list.

Enables the GameSpy4 query protocol so external tools can fetch server status information.

UDP port the GameSpy4 query protocol listens on when query is enabled. min 1 · max 65535 · default 25565

Rejects players whose Mojang-reported region does not match their connection, blocking many VPN and proxy connections.

Maximum packets per second a player may send before being kicked; 0 disables the limit. min 0 · max 10000 · default 0

Includes player IP addresses in the server log when they connect.

Allows players to be transferred onto this server from another server via the transfer packet, subject to server approval.

Older versions only (Minecraft 1.21.8 and earlier)

Enables player-versus-player combat, allowing players to damage each other directly. Only Minecraft 1.21.8 and older read this setting. Newer versions ignore it: use the /gamerule pvp command in the Console instead.

Toggles the natural spawning of hostile mobs such as zombies, skeletons, and creepers. Only Minecraft 1.21.8 and older read this setting. Newer versions ignore it: use the /gamerule spawn_monsters command in the Console instead.

Toggles the natural spawning of passive animals such as cows, sheep, and pigs. Only Minecraft 1.21.1 and older read this setting. Newer versions ignore it and have no replacement.

Toggles the spawning of villager NPCs in villages. Only Minecraft 1.21.1 and older read this setting. Newer versions ignore it and have no replacement.

Toggles whether players can travel to the Nether dimension through nether portals. Only Minecraft 1.21.8 and older read this setting. Newer versions ignore it: use the /gamerule allow_entering_nether_using_portals command in the Console instead.

Toggles whether command blocks are functional and can execute commands in the world. Only Minecraft 1.21.8 and older read this setting. Newer versions ignore it: use the /gamerule command_blocks_work command in the Console instead.

Where it goes. Put the file in the folder you start the server from, next to the server jar, replacing the one the server generated, then restart the server.

The file is built on our server with the same code NodeMesh uses to write it for you. Your settings are sent only to produce the preview and are not stored.

Run this config on your own PC with NodeMesh

NodeMesh installs a small agent on the PC you already own and runs your Minecraft server there. These same settings live in a Config tab, so you never edit the file by hand.
